  • Once you have signed up for a class you will automatically receive a password protected link to a range of instructional films, 14 in total, which you will have access to before, during and after the workshop as a visual aid of each of the process involved in producing a beautiful and wearable cloth on a foldable 4 shaft Ashford table loom. These films will detail the processes covered in the workshop and some, including warp preparation, stretching & winding the warp, threading the heddles and reed, tying on the warp and some top tips on the actual weaving process itself. Everything required to make beautiful cloth!

As with all classes within the PickOne Studios, all materials and equipment are provided as part of the costs, and the classes suit both beginners and those with previous weave experience.

An additional e mail will be sent out to you automatically on the Wednesday and Friday prior to your chosen weave class with a loose time table of events over weekend and further instruction on how to get to the PickOne studio.

There are three entry levels for the Weekend Weave Classes, which are as follows -

Complete beginners will explore producing a basic fabric, such as a twill or dog tooth cheque using a straight draft.

Those returning can explore weave structures such as birds eye twills with a pointed draft.

For those wishing to explore the full potential of weaving with 4 shafts fabric such as overshot structures using a block draft can be explored to really develop a sense of pattern making using warp and weft.

Please contact me directly if you would like to book in for 3 weekends to experience all three of these exciting weave structures, booking in for three weekends will unlock a 10% discount of the total cost. Please use contact me directly rather than choosing multiple “appointments” below.

Please note that at the end of the workshop you will take away the loom and yarn supplies to complete your project. Completing normally takes an additional five or six hours, including cutting off. Dates/times will be given as to when the looms and yarn supplies must be returned in time for the next workshop. If it is not possible for you to take the loom away at the end of the workshop, additional monies, £70, can be paid to complete your project on the Monday within the PickOne studio. This additional cost can be made on the day by bank transfer. If this is something that would suit advanced notice of a month must be given to secure this time.

Instruction will also be given on how to fold up/reassemble your loom at the end of the class as well as a follow up email sent the week after detailing the finishing off of your piece.

Monday Afternoon Weave Class

8 Week Block - £285

Monday 13.00 - 16.30

This relaxed afternoon class is limited to 4 students per class and as with the popular evening classes will roll on, with no fixed start date, students begin when a place becomes available.

Durning this afternoon weave class you will learn about differing weave structures taken from an extensive and rich range of literature before then going on to warp up and dress a 4 shaft ashford table loom. Loom can be warped up in merino lambs wool or cottolin of which we have extensive colour choices for both yarn types.

Whilst we are using 4 shafts, there is a rich vein of creativity that can be gleaned with using a limited amount of shafts through colour, p[attern, texture and colour/weave effects. This will all be clearly and methodically explained prior to beginning your project.

As with all classes within the PickOne Studios, all materials and equipment are provided as part of the costs, and this class would suit complete beginners.

This is also the only class with a scheduled tea/coffee break!

Cancellations / Attendance / Further Information

  • Canceling weekend workshops is an ABSOLUTE last resort and will not be taken lightly. If a class has to be cancelled a decision will be made as early as possible prior to the weekend, giving you the student as much notice as possible, depending on the nature of the cancellation. Alternative dates will be offered and chosen by those attending. If this does not suit, then a full refund will be offered.

Additional information will be sent out the week prior to a weekend workshop, with information regarding location, parking and other facilities etc …

Occasionally unforeseen circumstances can make attending paid for classes tricky/impossible for students to attend. Therefore I am happy for you to move your booking for free with 4+ weeks notice as this will give time to secure a student for the vacated space.

Any less time than 4 weeks notice proves more challenging and will incur a £150 fee, this fee will be waived if the vacated space is filled.

This fee requires to be paid in full prior to the attendance of the new chosen date. If this fee is not paid the place will be forfeited with no refund given.

Once the vacated place is filled, an admin fee of £50 will be requested for the time taken to secure a student for the vacated space. If this fee is not paid the place will be forfeited with no refund given.

If one cancels their space on a weekend weave course with less than 4 weeks notice and no future dates are deemed suitable, no refund will be issued.

Refunds will be considered on a case by case basis and the more advanced notice I have the better.

If you have any questions regarding this please do get in touch.

Access to the teaching space will be given once a booking has been made.

    Tea and coffee provide throughout.

Teaching for all classes is situated within the Coburg House Art Studios complex at the following address 15 Coburg St, Leith, Edinburgh EH6 6ET.

  • With no specific start date to the 11 week block, students join when availability allows, meaning students can be at different stages within the weaving process, which makes for a dynamic, inspiring and exciting evening class.

We also understand that over the course of the 11 weeks you may be unable to attend every Thursday evening class and we do allow two weeks grace, where two missed classes will be added onto the the end, giving you the full compliment of 11 weeks. Additional absences will not be added on.

If one runs over the the allotted 11 weeks with the weaving project a nightly charge of £20 will be requested until the project is completed.

Booking and payment in full, would ensure and guarantee a space for you when a vacancy occurs.

Alternatively, I can add you to the waiting list and contact you when a space becomes available, which traditionally takes a little longer to secure.

Tea, coffee and snacks provide throughout.

Access to the teaching space will be given once a booking has been made.

  • As we gingerly move forward into the new world COVID-19 has created we have gone back to hosting/teaching our ever-popular evening classes, with social distancing, regular hand washing + hand sanitiser put in place to make everyone feel safe whilst participating in their chosen activity, whether it be a weekend workshop, evening class or a speciality weave class.

Prior to any weekend workshop, I will perform a lateral flow test the day before and further limited contact with others prior to the workshop. Whilst it can not be enforced I would encourage all students to take a lateral flow test prior to attending either a weekend workshop or an evening class.
