Learn the creative and mindful art of Japanese Sashiko stitching and create a beautiful functional traditional Japanese drawstring bag..

Sashiko originated in rural Japan as a practical embroidery technique to reinforce and repair clothing but developed into a beautifully decorative form of expression with endless opportunities for creative play with intricate pattern and colour.

You will learn how to select and combine Sashiko designs, how to grid out your pattern and how to embellish your bag with beautifully intricate stitching. Karen will provide a wide range of Sashiko patterns and instructions that break the designs down into easy-to-follow steps as well as plenty of inspiration, guidance and encouragement. Once you have completed your embroidery, Karen will help and assist to construct your lined bag.

Sashiko stitching is a very mindful and meditative practice which also offers endless opportunities for creative play with colour and pattern.

You will leave the workshop with a new set of textile skills as well as a beautifully embroidered linen/ cotton bag that makes both a perfect gift or serves as a beautiful, sustainable wrapping for presents.
