Weave a sampler
£
190.00

Weaving a sampler over 16 shafts.

In this day and a half long workshop students will explore differing lifting combinations to produce a variety weave structures and effects over 16 shafts to produce a sampler other wise know as a gamp.

A tabby or plain weave colour gamp is the
simplest examples of a gamp. This workshop moves this idea forward somewhat where students will explore differing advancing twill structures over 16 shafts in 5 differing threading blocks, taking the threading and replicating with the same order of lifts in the weft, creating unique and exciting weave structures.

Whilst this workshop is primarily designed to explore woven structures over 16 shafts, the fabric woven will result in woven squares,
approximately 4" wide, and as we move from one structure to the next and this would also be an ideal opportunity to explore colour whilst exploring these structures.

Once complete this sampler/gamp will be an excellent design reference both for structure and colour blending for future projects.

Students will find looms dressed on arrival, using three different colour palettes and ready for weaving using a 17/2 merino lambs wool. Students can focus on the actual process of producing beautiful woven cloth whilst exploring the process of differing lifting combinations and colour mixing.

Hand outs will be available to take away at the end of each workshop as well as facilities for your own note taking. All materials will be supplied and all that is required from each students is enthusiasm and an inquisitive mind.

At the end of this workshop students will leave with up to a metre in length of handwoven cloth or what can be woven up until 12.30/13.00 on the second day.

Classes will be restricted to 3 students per class ensuring social distancing in these trying times.
